NEW COURSE! Grow more than just a Pollinator Garden… create Habitat Gardens for all our beneficial insects!
In this class, you will learn to create a lovely yard that provides habitat to our pollinator species, such as bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, as well as beneficial garden insects, such as predators and parasitoids who naturally control pest insects. You will learn essential habitat components that support our pollinator and beneficial insect communities. We will discuss native and non-native plants for your pollinator garden, and you will be provided with plant lists of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees. You will learn how to plant and care for these plants by means that will support the garden and wildlife habitat. $85+tax.

In this class, you will design your kitchen garden for your small “pocket” yard.
Kitchen gardens are food producing gardens that are designed to be beautiful, functional, and readily accessible, where you can grow vegetables, herbs, fruits, as well as companion flowers. We will improve on this further by focusing on design methods of sustainability, natural gardening, and productivity.
With your kitchen garden designed, you will then learn how to create an annual planting plan for your custom garden. $113+tax.

Learn how companion planting improves the resilience, production and health of our gardens, as well as enhances the local habitat of our yards! We will discuss tried-and-true companion planting groupings, as well as the plants that just shouldn’t hang-out together. Along with this comes our pollinator plants, that we grow not just as companions for our food producing gardens, but also those we grow just for the sake of the pollinators.. as well as other beneficial insects. We will discuss the plants that support this insect habitat, as well as the other features of habitat design!

Dig ‘n Dirt Day at Thiel’s Greenhouses! All day event from 10am - 4pm!
No registration required.
From 11am - 12:30pm Dora Berry will be speaking on the standards and basics to landscape installations for new planting areas! Learn about soil preparations, wood and rock mulches, landscape fabric or not, and planting of those trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals!
“Do you have a passion for planting, giving back to the community, or both? Come have fun for a good cause! Thiel's will be donating planters, plants, and soil to create pallet gardens for Bruderheim. Once planted, the pallets will be moved to the Walker School Historical Building, where they'll be looked after and harvested by senior volunteers in the community. All of the food grown from the pallet gardens will be donated to the Food Bank. There will be lots of fun and activities. So come out, have fun, and take part in a wonderful project that benefits the whole community.
Schedule includes Butterfly, Wings 'n Wishes who will be on site from 10:30-12:30 and Dora Berry, from Nature's Elements - Sustainable Landscape Design, will talk about standards for landscape installations for building planting beds from 11:00 am-12:30. Dig 'n Dirt planting will begin at 9:30 am and be available throughout the day. "Surprize" draws for kids, too! The "Alberta Food Truck" will be on site.
